ROUND SQUARE

In May 2023, GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah, became a proud member of the Round Square organization. Round Square is a global network of schools that is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education that fosters the development of character, leadership skills, and global citizenship among students. Round Square’s philosophy is based on the theories of experiential educational philosopher Kurt Hahn. Students come together to learn, share and celebrate the IDEALS of Round Square, – International Understanding, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership, and Service.

At Gems Millennium School Sharjah, we embrace the six Round Square IDEALS, which serve as the foundation of our educational philosophy. These IDEALS shape our curriculum, extracurricular activities, and community engagement initiatives to ensure a well-rounded educational experience for a student.

• Internationalism: We believe in fostering cultural understanding, tolerance, and global awareness through collaborative projects, cultural exchanges, and international conferences, like     Generation Global, Model United Nations and Modern Millennium Cultural Festival.
• Democracy:  Our school encourages participatory decision-making processes, student-led initiatives, and student voices to develop responsible citizens who actively contribute to their communities. Student leaders and Student council members are elected through a democratic process, which involves campaigns, speeches, and voting. Classrooms at GMS are democratic classrooms; Students feel safe and supported when they express their opinions and ask questions. Students have opportunities to choose what they will learn and how they will learn each day. Thus, taking charge of their own education instead of having everything decided for them. 
• Environment: GMS students are advocates for a greener environment and are well aware of sustainability issues. We strive to instill in our students a deep appreciation for the natural world through eco-friendly practices through a student-led Eco-Club in our school, mission of this club is to ensure that all our students and staff demonstrate the 4 Rs which are- Recycle, Reuse, Reduce and Refuse, in their day-to-day life.
• Adventure: The school provides opportunities for students to participate in activities that spark adventure and exploration, to mention a few of them are school-organized field trips that provide students with opportunities to discover new places, learn about different cultures, and delve into exciting topics. School successfully organizes competitions and events related to various subjects that foster a spirit of adventure as students prepare, and explore new areas of knowledge like iNNOVISTA, Science/Math/English/Social Science Week. 
• Leadership: Student leaders and council members at GMS play a crucial role in representing the interests and needs of the student body, organizing events and activities, and promoting a positive and inclusive school environment. The school promotes leadership skills among students by providing opportunities for personal growth, such as Mentor Match Initiative.
• Service: GMS is an inclusive school and aims to provide equal educational opportunities, support, and resources to students of all abilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive community.

Digital Citizenship

Digital media and technology are evolving at a dizzying pace, both unlocking extraordinary opportunities and posing real risks for young people. Students are using the immense power of the Internet and mobile technology to explore, connect, create, and learn in ways never before imagined, both in and out of the classroom. But issues that emerge from this 24/7 "connected culture," such as cyberbullying, privacy lapses, and uncertainty about which information to trust online, are surfacing both in schools and at home.

GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah sees these as teachable moments. We believe that digital citizenship skills have become essential for students in the 21st century, especially in schools like ours that are using technology to transform learning. That's why we are committed to teaching our students how to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly.

Our school GMS has been approved as a Common Sense Certified School since 2016, an honor that recognizes our efforts in teaching digital citizenship to young people and engaging the entire school community in this important discussion. The recognition acknowledges our school’s commitment creating a culture of digital learning and citizenship.

This honor is provided by Common Sense Education, part of a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in a world of media and technology.

We are one of the more than 100,000 schools across the country that use Common Sense Education's groundbreaking education resources. As a result, our students are better equipped to navigate the digital world and use devices for learning.

Microsoft Showcase School

Since 2017 - 2018

Our School is now officially a Microsoft Showcase School. We join a global community of schools engaged in innovative change to improve teaching and learning using Microsoft’s K-12 Education Transformation Framework. With the support and guidance of Microsoft, we create immersive and inclusive experiences that inspire lifelong learning, stimulating development of essential life skills so students are empowered to achieve more.
Showcase School leadership teams are part of a professional community that amplifies the use of technology to drive school-wide transformation and efficiencies.

We warmly congratulate our teachers Salu Melwin, Binu Nair, Monika Chauhan, Raina Rodrigues, Naureen Imam, Jacqueline Devi, Tina Tiby, Lakshmi Veeraragavan, Kavita Joshi, Brucena Barretto and Srijita Mukherjee on earning their certification as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEE). 

As an MIE Expert, educators build their capacity for using technology in both the classroom and curriculum to improve student learning, advise Microsoft and educational institutions on how to integrate technology in pedagogically sound ways and be an advocate at conferences, events and trainings for how Microsoft technology can improve learning.

GREEN FLAG

GMS was one among the 25 schools to be recognized for its initiatives both in the school and in the wider community for promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development. The school was awarded with the Eco-Schools Green Flag, which is a recognition for excellence in environmental action and learning.
